I made up this simple melody on the banjo in the late 80's before I had a dulcimer but I had the dulcimer sound in mind....like I thought this was how a dulcimer would sound even though I had never heard one much. I was destined to be a dulcimer player... : )When I did get a dulcimer I played with my fingers and was disappointed this tune wasn't very satisfying to play. When I picked my dulcimer this morning it was in this tuning (a little higher than CFBflat) and it was fun to play.I've never shared this tune before with anyone b/c I thought it was too insignificant, although I always came back to it on the banjo. Perhaps I'm secure enough in my dulcimerness nowadays to acknowledge I like and enjoy playing a simple mono-chord melody... : )....
You're asking a lot, Mary. We can't even get Randy to come up with words for song titles! I don't know what it will take to get him to write a verse or two. And the once or twice he shared some lyrics they weren't fit for mixed company!
I don't.....but you do huh Mary?
Randy, that sounds really great on the banjo. Thank you!
You all have given me enough encouragement....sometimes it doesn't take too much.. : )..to where I'd give it a whirl on the banjo a time or two....
Randy, that is so cool!!! I love that
Here it is Patty
Robin....I only remember a couple of the numbered tunes....but I also have trouble remembering a lot of the named tunes. I can play them but can't associate the titles with the notes! I used to be so good at recalling tunes/titles...idk what happened....I know a lot more tunes now?
Patty....That's the 1st dulcimer I ever owned...I scabbed a neck onto an old fiddle and made it go...I got it out the other day to play a tune on it....need to change the strings....
Sounds good to me!
#1 sounds great. I would love to hear you play that on the banjo too. By the way, is that a fiddle I see leaning against the wall behind you?
It's another great tune, Randy, and thank goodness you finally put up #1!You're a marvel to keep track of tunes with number names. If I attempted to do that, I'd be worse than Ma & Pa Kettle were at remembering their kids' names. Haha
Thanks Randy. No sweat about a non poetic mind if you have a 'poetic noter' says I !
best wishes
JH
Here...a sincere thanks for watching and commenting my friends. Some tunes are easy to play and some tunes are hard to play....it all evens out in the end huh?
John Henry...When a tune comes to me I'm just screwing around on my dulcimer...doing my practice thing. My tunes don't provoke in me images of Nebraska sunrises or Sandhill cranes flying overhead or the neighbors donkeys grazing next door. To me they're just tunes and I would feel pretentious to name them something they ain't. So I number them. I must not have a poetic mind....
Appalachian goodness!
Why that's a right fine tune there, Randy. Very pleasant. And if you can't be secure in your dulcimerness, then none of us can.
Hits the spot for me Randy, f'sure !!!
John
been meaning to ask, why 'numbers'?
Randy.
All I can say is, truly ....
Great job, Randy. Now that youfeel "secure in your playing," reckon we'll enjoy more of your recordings!!!
Thank you for sharing.
I think that you should feel very secure in your dulcimerness lol. Great stuff!
Randy, I'm glad you ultimately changed your mind and decided to share it; I think it's a great tune! I also love your sound. And the way it's recorded. It makes me think I should stop using a cell-phone for recordings and look into a real microphone. :)
I would definitely say that you were destined to dulcimer player. Simply excellent!
