description:
So I got to playing this tune this afternoon and couldn't place it. I played it a little more & I wondered if it was a Robin Thompson tune.....& maybe it was Quittin Time.....sure enuf! I don't play many slow tunes and it was hard for me to play...but lots of fun.... very hypnotic...it's a great tune. I was tuned to CFF and just let it ride...key of F

Randy's play of Quittin' Time (tuning he uses, timing, use of slides) lets me know how this needs to be played when played as a solo dulcimer tune. To my ear, my play of the tune needs Mark's accompaniment to sound complete while accompaniment would detract, I think, from Randy's play of QT.

I admit I heard your cover first then looked for Robin's version but the bottom line is - I LOVE this song! Awesome job Randy!

I remember when Robin T first posted this tune I immediately loved it...and the way she and Mark played it. I tried to play it then but couldn't handle the tempo...too slow! But the other day I got into it and made it work. I switched to an 'out strum' and dipped into my supply of Phyllis Gaskins picks.....46 Dunlops....a little thicker than I generally use.

When I started playing QT I was tuned down to CFF to play with a Dan Gellert vid @ u-tube...Old Jimmy Sutton....good luck playing with his rhythm!...he plays the simplest tunes in the most complex way....maybe some day. Anyways that low F on a .012 gauge string was pushing it f'sure....amps out and bounces off the fretboard here and there....but I liked the sound & tone it was producing.

Thank you for the tune Robin! It tickles me you and Mark like it!

And thank you for watching my friends....& thx for getting it JK....f'real....

I like this as much as tune 22. Great song and great playing!

It's ambles on in such a musical way, yet the right hand keeps it on track...just lots of cool stuff going on here beyond what someone might catch on a "casual" viewing of the video. Randy, you've done it again! 77.gif

Randy, we're tickled pink with the blues-y feel you've given the tune! Those sweet slides and the feel you've given through the thing let us pretty near, like Carrie said, feel the tired at the end of the day. Can't say enough about how much we enjoy this or about how honored it makes us feel that you'd play this little tune!

I really like this one Randy. I'm a fan of tunes without lots of extra notes everywhere. You gave this one a beautiful loping rhythm and some lazy/slippery low notes.
