I learned it from a Henry Reed recording.. You can hear him play it here. http://memory.loc.gov/afc/afcreed/130/13035a32.mp3 And learn more about the tune here. http://tunearch.org/wiki/British_Field_March BFM is in the dorian mode...I think...it's a dorian mode tuning anyways...and I think it's an 'A' tune. I'm tuned in G...DGCd.
Beautiful Sir.
Oh My Randy...just Beautiful...!
Randy, you've got some stuff I'd love to be able to download. I don't care about anything sounding produced. . .Remember that pretty play on the PVMB that got you a trip to Mexico for the wedding? Well, that would be the tune I'd start with then some of that fretless c'box music then. . .
Thx Wendy. I don't do the music biz....I feel a rant coming on sorry....
I think I could sell 10 or 15 CD's but what do I do with the other 85 or 90?.. : ). And...I don't care to rehearse 15 tunes to get ready to make a CD...I just wanna play whatever I wanna play at the time....something new and different preferably. And....I don't care for the pressure of the recording studio...it's like so permanent.
Randy, I'm pre-ordering your album. When is it coming out? Everything you play mesmerizes
I like it, Randy!
I've learned a lot from this tune! I've never understood the British, Welsh, Scottish, English, Irish, Northern Irish, England, United Kingdom, Britain, Great Britain, British Isles, Commonwealth.....the whole deal. I looked it up. I'm getting myself educated!... : )....
....and elephant stamps... : )...
I had to look up crikey Helen.... funny!....& elephant stamps is a new one on me also.
Good ear Kevin....the right hand style for my fretless and chromatic style is almost identical.
Mary...that is the open tuning there. DGCd. It's a dorian mode tuning. I like the sound of it and I also like to give the listener the tuning for the remote chance someone might want to play it in that tuning.
Thanks again my friends...f'sure
Amazing! Really love that one.
Wow Randy you even did it with out the noter. Your finger dancing style reminded me of how you play the fretless. Great stuff there.
That's a cool tune Randy. War of 1812 I see. Wonder what the Americans were playing? I love watching you play!
Another great job! I LOVED watching your right hand in this one!
I appreciate you guys having a look see....f'real...
This video here got me started on BFM. This guy plays it on the banjo and plays it so beautifully I was drawn to it immediately. At first I thought I'd like to play it like he does...all flowery and harmony....but then I remembered that ain't how I operate... : )....and I'm not sure I could do it anyways. ...so I stuck pretty close to the way Henry Reed plays it....but without the bounce he gets on it...which it needs really....I don't play it much like a march...
Wayne I can't build anything that requires a shiny finish... : )...
Bravo, bravo
Very good!
Very cool!
Randy, I've got this tune by both Chris Via and the Reed family Band and the duo of Christian Wigg & Whit Mead and their versions are good. I like the low mellow approach you've taken a whole lot-- gives the tune a fresh feel.
Brilliant, Randy!
Thanks for the link on tunearch.org but do you have the dulcimer TAB as well?
What everyone else said "wonderful". :)
