I've been going to school on John Henry's playing learning the finer points of noter playing....been hooked on one string here lately....forces me to be a better dulcimer player
That's a great practice idea Randy To play one string and getthe tunesounding good is bloody hard! I always think that with noter drone playing the musician is more exposed than they are when playing chord melody. And I think that's one of the reasons that, up until recently, folks have seen noter drone as a beginners wy to play and then 'moved on' to chord melody. It is actuallytough to progess musically with noter drone playing as there is nowhere to hide. This is particularly true of slower tunes and ballads. Developing musicallity with a noter is slow coming and takes hours of work.
That's lovely playing Randy - and a great example of how playing a dulcimer beautifully with a notermay be 'simple'but it is not 'easy'

Very nicely done Randy!
I love this Randy . I like that vibrato too. Any chance of you playing this at a ball game? I would rather hear you playing the National Anthem then some singers I've heard.
And maybe not just beginners John Henry. The drones hide notes that aren't quite right in my playing and I'm learning a lot, changing some aspects of my technique etc. I'll keep playing the one stringer for the foreseeable future....which might be tomorrow....
& yeah Lisa JH pioneered the use of the noter vibrato....effective technique for milking sustain on the slower tunes
Nice one Randy! I happen to think that anyone just starting out on N/D can gain a lot by just using that melody string for a while, takes some of the factors out of the equasion, helps to build a bit of confidence ? (just my opinion)
Thank you for bumping this today Randy!
This is beautiful. and the perfect day to reflect on it!
Might be a good day for a bump

lol! I know what you mean Randy, so true. Heck, even the term 'foreseeable future' is kind of an oxymoron in itself, huh?
Very clear and I like the vibrato, too!

Nicely done!
Hey that is very pretty Randy. Did you pick up the vibrato trick from John Henry?
