Yes, Eddn's version takes quite a few creative liberties itself- he fiddled a very ethereal and loose interpretation of what sounds like a fairly standard sounding old hymn. I think all bets are off when creating 'an interpretation of an interpretation'...often best to just go with the inner flow! You have a real nice 'flow on' going there, Ran-Man.
This tune was fun to work on. Like Dave said there were choices to make as far as what to keep from Mr. Hammon's version...& yet strive to have the spirit & energy of his fiddling remain.
I went with a .045 bass string for the low D' note and went with an out strum so I could rumble it just enough to keep the drone going.
All in all a pleasant diversion from life's travails for a few days.
Sincere thanks for watching & commenting my friends.
Even tho' I hadn't heard the tune before I had an idea from the title it would be something derived from an old Sacred Harp tune called "Murillo's Lesson." BOY, was I wrong!!! Beautiful and unexpected, I just love it when that happens. Still gotta get them Edden cd's; although if you and Dave keep playing 'em here, maybe I won't need them. Thanks!
I havent heard this. Its beautiful. Where does it originate from ? Great job.
What a beautiful tune and awesome playing.
I missed this one Randy. I guess this is what happens when I'm not online for a day. Nice playing
This is really beautiful Randy. Thanks for sharing it.
Yes i think that whole Hammons clan were musical geniuses!
Wow you really dug into that tune!
If I may expound on your "very ethereal and loose interpretation of what sounds like a fairly standard sounding old hymn".
He makes it 4 parts, with each part so perfect in and of itself and leading to the next.
It is, I think, a ionian scale but he somehow makes it sound more complex and mysterious than what the scale should provide.
He's a musical genius isn't he?.
